I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy

The countdown stands at 8 DAYS from today!

Arthur and I got our marriage license this morning and luckily, we were there right when they opened and encountered no line! So now whatever else happens or doesn’t, at least we will be able to get married. No idea whether all my little projects are going to get done in time – but I’ve been working on the wedding like crazy.

Our friends came over on Tuesday to help us put together the favors - tins of tea. There are three different types of tea, so you can choose the one that you would like:

Seattle Chai – Aromatic spiced tea, especially good with cream and sugar
Genmaicha – A Japanese style blend that I think distinctly smells like popcorn and tastes wonderful! Easiest tea to drink with anything.
Lemon Ginger – Our non-caffeinated option. Delicious and I think the name speaks for itself.

A recent project of mine has been designing the programs to be styled like a Broadway Playbill. The drafted cover is below and I used one of our engagement photos. Gotta love Photoshop!

An Old Fashioned Wedding

I have been very busy lately checking items off of the to-do list. We met with our florist and I am pleasantly surprised that I will not need to do the flower arrangements myself, as previously thought. He sounds absolutely wonderful and is willing to incorporate every idea that I have to make the arrangements exquisite. Also off of the checklist is that I found a professional recommended from a fellow Seattle bride to do my hair. Thank goodness we have a trial session (on Halloween, no less), because as of now I still have no idea how I want my hair styled.

Arthur and I continue to look into transportation options for ourselves and our guests. If you have not let us know, but would like to take advantage of transportation from downtown to the venue (and back), please let us know ASAP!

Thanks to help from my wonderful bridesmaids and some other generous friends, we were able to make some headway on decorations this past week. Some of these are still works in progress, but you can see the projects below.

As We Stumble Along

Well it’s here. ONE MONTH until the big day!! I’m kinda surprised I had time to post about this. Things are very hectic and I thought I’d give you a snapshot in the life of a DIY (do-it-yourself) bride. Plus, I’d like to lay out all my tasks so that I can see what I have to do.

My checklist for the month (in no particular order):

- Design ceremony
- Decoration: pomanders (see below)
- Decorations: table musicals
- Decoration: photo table
- Decoration: playbill table
- Photo booth: masks
- Seating chart
- Guestbook design
- Transportation: guests and get-away car
- Decide a wedding hairstyle
- Get marriage license (!!!)
- Rehearsal dinner plans (?)
- Ceremony programs
- Get garter
- Order favors
- Finalize playlists
- Final payments to vendors

Ok, I know there’s more. I should have titled this the checklist for the next 2 weeks. And this doesn’t even include all of the (20 or so) tasks that I charged Arthur with – that he is actually receptive of!

Dancing Through Life

Wow, things have been so crazy I haven’t had a chance to post about everything I’ve been getting done. I’ll just make this somewhat short because I’m still running around trying to catch my breath.

First thing’s first. We get married next month!!

Alright, now onto the updates.

Booked out Band

The Motown Cowboys - They are awesome. Arthur and I are their groupies now – after seeing them perform at public performances (mostly taverns) three times. Their motto is: “we will play any song, anybody requests, anytime, anywhere. Even if we’ve never heard it, no problem, we’ll play it.” So be prepared with your requests!

Organist

We met with our organist for the ceremony music and love his enthusiasm to play exactly what we want! I don’t want to spoil the selection, so I’ll just leave you with saying that he’s a musical fan too.

Ceremony

I’ve started drafting the ceremony. I’m excited to make this our own and am taking this project very seriously. No cookie cutter ceremony for me!

Decorations

I’m also working on decorations this month – I will be doing all of the decorating and the floral arrangements myself. Ordered tons of stuff from SaveOnCrafts and The Dollar Tree, including several sizes and types of candles, vases, supplies for making pomanders, mask making supplies (for photobooth), and lots of other fun decorations. Maybe I’ll post some of the projects once I start working on them.

Videographer

At the last minute, we decided we wanted a professional to help capture the memories of our wedding day. We will just be asking for raw footage, not an edited video. They will be capturing video of the ceremony and part of the reception, so Arthur also proposed the idea of getting a video camera for me (or my bridesmaids) to film some of the getting ready aspects of the day. Should be fun!

Invitations? Check!

Last weekend my mom and bridesmaids Melanie and Amber came over and helped assemble invites with us. It was a very productive day and we made all 60 of them by hand!

Now I have to go to the post office and pray that they won’t charge me more than the $.44 stamp I already put on them.

Just how long is my wedding day going to look?

A conversation with my mom inspired me to create my wedding day timeline and I was impressed to see just how long of a day I have in store!

8am – hair
10am – makeup
11:30 – get dressed
Noon – transport
12:30 – b/g photos
1:30 – wedding party photos
3:15 – at Sanctuary
3:45 – ceremony
4:30 – cocktail hour
5:30 – dinner
6pm – first dance
7pm – toasts, cake cutting
8pm – bouquet, garter toss
9:30 – b/g leave
10pm – end of reception

Of course, I’m sure it will all pass in the blink of an eye.
